Li Yujun, a semiconductor expert from Taiwan, won the Texas Tech Outstanding Research Award Houston News 2023-05-08 02:14 ET
Texas Tech University (TTU) recently presented the Barney E. Rushing Jr. Faculty Distinguished Research Award, and Chair Professor Yujun Li from Taiwan received the trophy from President Lawrence Schovanec, which testifies to his 16 years of service at the university, whether it is research, Teaching and innovation are commendable. Prof. Donald Y.C. Lie graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University in 1987 and immediately came to the United States for further study, receiving a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Cal Tech in 1995. He has spent 15 years in R&D and management positions at Motorola, Rockwell International, Silicon-Wave (now Qualcomm), IBM, Microtune Inc., SYS Technologies, and Dynamic Research Corporation (DRC). From 2001 to 2007, he was a visiting lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego (UCSD) while at IBM, and was affiliated with the Center for Wireless Communications, where he co-supervised doctoral students. However, Professor Li is passionate about academic research and teaching, and has been teaching in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas Tech University since 2007, where he is the Keh-Shew Lu Regents Chair and an adjunct professor in the Department of Surgery at the University Medical Center. His research volume has generated millions of dollars in research funding for the university and has supported many doctoral students. Li Yujun and his students have won 22 awards for the best graduate paper and the best paper award at international conferences. In 2018, Li Yujun was selected for the U.S. Air Force R&D Laboratory Summer Teacher Scholarship Program in Ohio, and was appointed as a chair professor in the School of Electrical Engineering by National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) in Taiwan in the same year. Li Yujun is a Fellow of the International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), a Fellow of the American Society of Scientific Research (Sigma Xi), and a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Li Yujun won the Outstanding Research Award from Texas Tech University this year. Prior to that, he has received the U.S. NAVY SPAWAR SSC San Diego Center Team Achievement Award, the DRC Silver Award for Excellence, the IBM “FIRST” Chairman’s Patent Award, and the Rockwell International “FIRST” Engineering Award. In terms of semiconductor research, Li Yujun is an expert in Si/SiGe heterostructures, and has successively developed advanced CMOS transistor advanced technology and process models of 0.8, 0.6, 0.5, 0.35, 0.25, 0.18, and 0.15 microns at Rockwell International. High linear RF and microwave power amplifiers and SoCs, successfully designed to sell millions of commercial communication products internationally. Since 2009, Dr. Li co-founded Noise Figure Research, a company focused on state-of-the-art RF-SoC technology, with numerous awards and contracts and more than 50 employees along with his mentor, Dr. Jerry Lopez. Dr. Li has authored 260 papers and book chapters and holds seven U.S. patents. It is worth mentioning that the three papers he led the research team published were selected as the top 100 most downloaded papers among the millions of papers in IEEE Xplore™, and Stanford University ranked him among the top 2% of the world’s most cited research papers, making him a world-class top scientist. On the day of the award presentation ceremony, Professor Li Yujun, accompanied by his two sons, Paul and Titus, shared the honour. In an interview, the semiconductor scientist encouraged young students: “Don’t just pursue money or high-paying jobs, don’t settle for the small blessings you have now, seek greater goals for life and research, do the right thing in life every day, and work together to find many good ways and new technologies to improve the lives of others, ourselves, and the next generation.” Texas Tech University is located in Lubbock, Texas, USA, founded in 1923 and originally called Texas Technological College (Texas Technological College), which was changed to its current name in 1969. Professor Li Yujun shared the moment of honor with his sons. (Provided by the Taipei Scripture Office) https://www.worldjournal.com/wj/story/121279/7149786
